Venus de Milo: Louvre's Legendary Sculpture

The Venus de Milo is a Hellenistic sculpture believed to depict the Greek goddess Aphrodite. Dating back to around 130–100 BCE, it was discovered on the island of Milos in 1820 and brought to the Louvre shortly after.

This masterpiece is celebrated for its graceful form, subtle modeling of the body, and mysterious missing arms, which add to its enigmatic beauty.

Visitor Tips

  • Located in the Sully Wing, the sculpture is easy to find with museum maps.
  • Observe the drapery and body proportions to appreciate Hellenistic artistry.
  • Avoid peak hours to get unobstructed photos and a quiet viewing experience.
